Philips was, but to focus on its direct LED backlighting technology. This approach uses a grid of LEDs behind the screen that are individually dimmable. The advantage of direct LED lighting is that a portion of the screen can be at full brightness, while others, in complete darkness. Therefore, the amount delivered a much higher contrast across the screen – bright objects remain clear, while the darker objects really dark. The company focuses on making good use of its Ambilight 32PFL9705 make television, making it incredibly cinematic-looking images. However, at £ 1,300 was incredibly expensive for a 32-inch model and its menu system is a bit of a head scratcher.
